One of the most talked-about entries is the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, a stylish and high-tech crossover EV from the French automaker that has recently been spotted testing in India, particularly on the streets of Chennai.

In early 2024 and again in mid-2025, the Megane E-Tech Electric was seen testing with Tamil Nadu (TN) license plates in Chennai, sparking excitement and speculation about its launch. Why Chennai?

Chennai is home to Renault-Nissan's major R&D and manufacturing hub in India. The city’s varied weather and infrastructure make it an ideal testing ground for vehicles that may enter the Indian market. These tests suggest that Renault is studying how the Megane EV adapts to Indian road conditions and consumer expectations.

🇮🇳 Will It Launch in India?

While there's no official launch announcement yet, Renault India has been actively evaluating premium EVs for the Indian market. The presence of the Megane E-Tech Electric in Chennai strongly hints at either a CBU (Completely Built Unit) introduction or a limited-run showcase.

Expected Price in India (If Launched)

  • ₹45 lakh – ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom, as CBU)

  • Could compete with: Hyundai Kona

  • Electric, BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6 (entry trim)India’s EV Market Is Ready

With the Indian government supporting EV adoption through subsidies, reduced import duties (under the new SPMEPCI policy), and better charging infrastructure, the timing may be right for Renault to introduce the Megane E-Tech as a halo product to boost its brand image in India.
