In a notable celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended invitations to a distinguished group of 400 women from across the country, including Panchayat representatives, Lakhpati Didis, and Drone Didis, to be special guests at the Red Fort. This event aims to honor their contributions and achievements in various domains.
Among the invitees are approximately 45 “Lakhpati Didis,” women who have achieved an annual income of one lakh rupees or more, and about 30 “Drone Didis,” women from self-help groups who have been provided subsidies to purchase drones under the Nammo Drone Didi scheme. These initiatives are part of the Modi government’s broader goal of empowering women in rural areas.
The Ministry of Rural Development has organized a national workshop on Wednesday to celebrate these women. The workshop will feature keynotes from Kiran Bedi, former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and founder of the Navjyoti India Foundation, and senior officials from the ministry. Discussions will focus on the emerging roles of women in governance and the practice of “Sarpanch Patni” (the practice of appointing the spouse of a Sarpanch as a leader).
This year’s Independence Day theme, “Developed India,” aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. As part of this vision, the government continues to roll out various schemes and initiatives aimed at benefitting communities across the nation. In keeping with tradition, approximately 6,000 special guests will be invited to the national capital for the Independence Day celebrations.
The inclusion of these pioneering women in the Red Fort ceremony highlights their significant contributions to societal development and the ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment in India.
