Parents Provide CBI with Suspect Names in Trainee Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case

In the ongoing investigation of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, her parents have provided the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with the names of several interns and doctors whom they suspect might be involved. This case is being investigated by the CBI following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

According to a CBI officer, the parents have suggested that multiple individuals might be implicated in the crime. The CBI has started questioning the identified suspects, including house staff and post-graduate trainees who were on duty with the victim on the night of the incident. The investigation also involves questioning Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former hospital principal, who resigned shortly after the body was discovered and sought protection from the court due to safety concerns.

The CBI has conducted a 3D reconstruction of the crime scene in the hospital seminar room where the post-graduate trainee’s body was found on August 9. So far, about 30 suspects have been identified and are under questioning.

In political developments, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused opposition parties CPI(M) and BJP of orchestrating vandalism at RG Kar Hospital and distorting facts related to the case. She criticized the spread of misinformation on social media and emphasized the need for justice, urging for the culprits to be punished.

In response, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized leaders from the INDIA bloc, accusing them of using the issue for political gain and failing to address the crime adequately. He asserted that the CBI’s involvement will ensure that all responsible parties receive the harshest punishment, regardless of their status.

The incident has sparked nationwide protests among medical students and doctors, calling for legislation to enhance safety in hospitals and protect medical professionals.
