Arrest likely for former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh as police register case

Former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal, Sandip Ghosh, may soon face arrest as the Kolkata Police has filed a case against him. This development comes amid ongoing investigations into the death of a trainee doctor at the college. The charges against Ghosh and others include Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 7 (bribery) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The police are also preparing to issue a notice to Ghosh for allegedly disclosing the identity of the victim. According to police sources, this notice is expected to be served later this week. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already questioned Ghosh for a total of 50 hours over four sessions concerning the rape and murder of the junior doctor. Ghosh has also been implicated in multiple irregularities and acts of corruption during his tenure as principal of RG Kar Medical College.

Previously, the Kolkata Police had issued notices to several social media users for revealing the victim’s identity, spreading rumors, and posting unverified information.

Victim’s Family Demands Ghosh’s Arrest

The former principal’s role has been under scrutiny since the RG Kar Medical College incident came to light. The victim’s family has repeatedly demanded his arrest. The victim’s mother, as quoted by ABP Ananda, expressed her frustration: “I don’t understand what is happening with the investigation. It’s been a week, and only Sanjay Roy has been arrested. We are losing hope with each passing day.”

She further questioned why Ghosh had not been arrested despite continuous interrogation by the CBI, saying, “The principal is being interrogated continuously, but there’s no arrest. We don’t understand what the CBI is trying to find out.”

Ghosh is undergoing his fourth day of questioning by the CBI regarding the trainee doctor’s rape and murder. Investigators are also scrutinizing his mobile phone records to determine who he spoke to on the day of the incident and whether any text messages were exchanged.
