It will benefit 2.3 million central employees, giving them the option to choose between UPS and NPS. State governments may also adopt this scheme if they wish.Differences between NPS and UPS: In the UPS, employees will contribute 10% of their basic salary, similar to NPS, but the government will contribute 18.5% instead of 14%. After 25 years of service, retirees will receive a fixed pension amounting to 50% of the average basic pay of the last 12 months. Unlike NPS, the pension under UPS is not market-dependent, ensuring a fixed pension. UPS combines the benefits of both OPS and NPS.
