Maharashtra Becomes First State to Announce Implementation of Unified Pension Scheme

The Maharashtra government has announced the implementation of a Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) in the state, making it the first state to do so. Just a day earlier, on August 24, the central government approved reforms in the New Pension Scheme (NPS). The decision by the state government was influenced by the long-standing demand from government employees to restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). However, employees will have the option to choose between the new UPS and the existing NPS.
