Textbooks that call Akbar ‘great’ will be burnt, Rajasthan education minister announces

Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced on Sunday that all books glorifying Mughal Emperor Akbar and referring to him as “great” will be burnt.

This statement was made during his visit to Udaipur, where he addressed a gathering at the Vivekanand Auditorium of Mohanlal Sukhadia University.

Dilawar emphasized that comparing Akbar with Maharana Pratap is an insult to the Rajput warrior king and the pride of Rajasthan. He described Maharana Pratap as a protector of the people who never bowed down, contrasting him with Akbar, whom he accused of causing numerous deaths for personal gain.

He further stated that calling Akbar “great” is an act of foolishness and that there was no bigger enemy to the Mewar region and Rajasthan than those who praised Akbar in school textbooks.

The minister clarified that they have reviewed books across all classes and have not yet found any references to Akbar as “great.” However, he warned that if such mentions are discovered, all those books will be burnt.

Maharana Pratap, a legendary Rajput warrior king of Mewar, is celebrated for his unwavering bravery and resistance against the Mughal Empire, especially during the Battle of Haldighati in 1576.
