A significant fire has erupted at Times Tower, a seven-storey commercial building located in the Kamala Mills compound of Lower Parel, Mumbai. The fire, which started around 6:30 AM, has been classified as a level 2 (major) blaze by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). In response, nine fire engines and additional firefighting units have been deployed to manage the situation.
The flames are primarily affecting the electric ducting between the 3rd and 7th floors of the building, which features a glass façade. As of now, there are no reported casualties, and firefighters are working to control and extinguish the fire.
This incident brings back memories of the devastating fire that occurred on December 29, 2017, in the Kamala Mills compound, which resulted in 14 deaths and numerous injuries. The previous fire led to multiple arrests, though the owners of the Kamala Mills compound were later discharged of charges by the Mumbai sessions court in November 2020.
In February, another fire at the Options Commercial Centre in Santacruz West also drew significant emergency response but was contained to electrical installations.
