BRS Leaders Placed Under House Arrest Amid Planned Rally in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Several key leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) were placed under house arrest on Friday after police received information about a planned rally and gathering at the residence of PAC Chairman Arekapudi Gandhi. Among those detained was former minister and BRS MLA T. Harish Rao, who was confined to his residence in Kokapet. Despite seeking medical attention for injuries sustained during a confrontation with police at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate on Thursday, Harish Rao was denied permission to visit a hospital.

Adding to the tension, former minister Sunitha Laxma Reddy and former MP Malothu Kavitha were barred from entering Harish Rao’s residence, leading them to protest on-site before being detained by the police.

Other prominent BRS leaders also faced restrictions, with former ministers Jogu Ramanna, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, and Malla Reddy all placed under house arrest. Police further restricted the movement of former ministers Sabita Indra Reddy at her residence in Srinagar Colony and Talasani Srinivas Yadav in West Marredpally.

In addition, Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao, MLA Vivekananda in Qutbullapur, and MLC Shambhirpur Raju were placed under house arrest. Heavy security was deployed at the camp office and around Shambhirpur Raju’s residence, where BRS leaders had initially planned to march toward Arekapudi Gandhi’s house.
