A major disaster was averted when a deliberate attempt to derail the Kalindi Express was thwarted in Uttar Pradesh. Saboteurs had placed an LPG cylinder and a bottle of petrol on the railway tracks in a dangerous bid to cause a derailment. The train, traveling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani, narrowly avoided catastrophe thanks to the quick actions of the loco pilot.

The incident occurred near Muderi village, located between Barrajpur and Bilhaur stations along the Kanpur-Kasganj route. Early Sunday morning, the train struck the LPG cylinder, but the vigilant loco pilot noticed the obstruction and applied emergency brakes, preventing the situation from escalating. Along with the cylinder, a petrol bottle and matchbox were also found, suggesting an intention to ignite an explosion.

Police Response and Investigation

The Kanpur Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) swiftly responded to the scene. Senior officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Harish Chandra, confirmed that the train halted immediately after striking the cylinder. The timely application of the brakes averted what could have been a massive tragedy.

The damaged LPG cylinder was removed, and authorities began a thorough investigation to identify those behind the sabotage. Forensic teams are examining the scene, and the RPF has vowed strict action against the perpetrators once they are apprehended.

This incident follows a series of recent sabotage attempts on Indian Railways, including a boulder placed on the tracks of the Sabarmati Express, leading to a derailment, and another case involving iron and cement blocks targeting the Vande Bharat Express in Rajasthan. Authorities are on high alert, ensuring the safety of passengers traveling across the rail network.

Passenger Safety and Investigation Ongoing

While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the discovery of explosives on the tracks has raised serious concerns about passenger safety. The Kalindi Express resumed its journey after a brief halt for inspection at Bilhaur station. Police have stated that they are actively working on the case, and those responsible for this reckless act will face severe consequences.

The incident highlights the increasing need for heightened security measures along railway routes to prevent future sabotage attempts.
