CBI Investigates Colleagues of Kolkata Doctor in Tragic Murder Case

The nation is gripped by widespread protests following the shocking rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now probing the involvement of four of her colleagues—two first-year postgraduate trainees, a house surgeon, and an intern—whose statements have raised inconsistencies.

Although initial findings suggest these individuals may not have directly participated in the crime, the CBI is keen on verifying whether they may have tampered with evidence or been part of a larger conspiracy. Investigators have meticulously reconstructed the events leading up to the horrific incident.

According to a timeline compiled by the Kolkata Police, the body was first discovered at around 9:30 AM in the seminar hall by one of these colleagues, who promptly alerted authorities. This group had been previously interrogated by local police before the CBI assumed control of the case.

Key Discoveries by the CBI

The CBI has uncovered fingerprints belonging to two of the four doctors in the seminar room on the third floor, where the victim’s body was found. Surveillance footage also shows the house surgeon moving from the first to the third floor on the night of the incident. He claims to have been on the third floor at approximately 2:45 AM. The intern, who was also on the third floor, had reportedly spoken with the victim that night.

Sequence of Events

Sources reveal that the victim had dinner with two first-year postgraduate trainees around midnight before they all watched Neeraj Chopra’s javelin event at the Olympics in the seminar room. At around 2 AM, the two colleagues left for the doctors’ rest area, while the victim remained in the seminar room. The intern stated that he was in the nearby interns’ room. All these locations are situated close to each other on the third floor.

The Discovery the Next Morning

At around 9:30 AM, one of the postgraduate trainees, who had dined with the victim the previous night, went to find her before the morning rounds. He discovered her lifeless body from a distance and immediately informed his colleagues, who then alerted senior doctors and hospital authorities.

Lie-Detector Test Approved

A special court has granted the CBI permission to conduct lie-detector tests on the four doctors, as well as Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, who has faced criticism for his management of the incident. These tests, which require both court approval and the suspect’s consent, are expected to provide further clarity in this tragic case.
