Sivaram, a 31-year-old accused and the main suspect in the fake NCC camp case in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, where a 14-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped, reportedly died by suicide on Friday. According to the police, he consumed a poisonous substance before his arrest.
Superintendent of Police P Thangadurai stated that Sivaram had been hiding in Coimbatore to evade arrest, but he was apprehended on August 19 based on a tip-off. During the arrest, he was injured in a fall and was receiving treatment at the Government Hospital in Krishnagiri. When doctors examined his blood report, Sivaram confessed that he had ingested poison to avoid arrest.
Sivaram was later transferred to Salem Medical College Hospital, but his condition deteriorated, and he passed away on Friday morning. In connection with this case, 11 other suspects, including school officials, have been arrested for allowing Sivaram to conduct the fake NCC camp without proper verification.
Commodore S Raghav, Deputy Director General of the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andaman NCC Directorate, confirmed that the NCC camp organized by Sivaram was entirely fake. Additionally, Sivaram was involved in another financial fraud case, where he defrauded a person of ₹3.6 million.
Following the incident, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin intervened, and psychological counseling is being provided to the affected girls and their families. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also taken suo moto cognizance of the case and has sought a report from the state government.
The incident has sparked political reactions, with Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami questioning the incident and demanding the Chief Minister reveal the truth behind the case to the public.
