Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Poland on August 21 and 22, followed by a visit to Ukraine on August 23, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.
“Prime Minister Modi will be making an official visit to Poland on August 21-22, at the invitation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. This visit is significant as it marks the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations,” stated Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Regarding the visit to Ukraine, Lal mentioned, “Prime Minister Modi will travel to Ukraine on August 23, on the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This visit is historic, as it will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine in over 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The visit aims to build on recent high-level engagements between India and Ukraine.”
India’s Position on the Ukraine Conflict
During the press briefing, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated India’s stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy.
“India has consistently maintained that diplomacy and dialogue are essential to resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, leading to a lasting peace. A negotiated settlement, acceptable to both parties, is the only viable solution,” Lal emphasized.
He added, “India remains engaged with all stakeholders, with Prime Minister Modi having held discussions with leaders from both Russia and Ukraine. The Prime Minister also recently visited Russia. India is ready to offer any support necessary to facilitate peaceful solutions to this complex issue. However, it is not for us to speculate on the outcomes of these discussions between the leaders of India and Ukraine.”
