On August 24, 2024, a roadside bomb attached to a motorcycle detonated near a police office in Pishin, a district in Balochistan, southwestern Pakistan. The explosion tragically killed at least two children and injured 15 other people, including both police officers and civilians.

Local police official Mujirbur Rehman reported that the bomb was likely activated remotely, and an investigation is currently underway. Some of the wounded are in critical condition and have been hospitalized. The deceased have been taken to a nearby medical facility.

Responsibility for the attack has not yet been claimed by any group. However, there is speculation that separatist factions in Balochistan, known for escalating attacks on security forces and civilians, might be behind the incident.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the bombing and expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the children. He stated that those responsible for the attack “do not deserve to be called humans” and vowed to continue the fight against terrorism until these threats are eradicated.

Balochistan has faced a persistent insurgency from groups seeking independence from the central government in Islamabad. Despite official statements claiming progress in curbing the insurgency, violence in the province continues to be a serious issue.
