In a shocking case of rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, has confessed to his crime during a polygraph test. The incident took place on the night of August 8 and 9, where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered. On the morning of August 9, her semi-nude body was found in the seminar hall of the medical college.

Sanjay Roy’s Confession and Details of the Crime:

During the polygraph test, Sanjay revealed that he was intoxicated on the night of the incident. He first visited a red-light area, where he harassed a woman and later asked his girlfriend for nude photos. Afterward, around 4 AM, Sanjay arrived at the hospital’s seminar hall, where he raped and murdered the trainee doctor. Sanjay had also confessed to the crime while in police custody, further confirming his involvement in the case.

Key Revelations from the Polygraph Test:

  1. Confession of Rape and Murder: Sanjay Roy admitted during the polygraph test that he was the one who raped and murdered the trainee doctor on the night of August 8 and 9. The test was conducted on August 25 by members of the CBI and the Central Forensic Team, where Sanjay confessed to all the allegations.
  2. Night Spent Drinking and in Red-Light Area: Sanjay disclosed that before the incident, he had consumed alcohol with a friend and then visited a red-light area. He also harassed a woman on the way and later asked his girlfriend for nude photos over a video call late at night.
  3. Events After the Murder: After committing the murder, Sanjay went to his friend’s house, who is an officer in the Kolkata Police. He concealed the entire incident from his friend and tried to mislead the police.

Sanjay’s Arrest and Court Appearance:

Sanjay was arrested on August 10, the day after the incident. After his arrest, he was presented in the Sealdah Court on August 14. While in court, Sanjay tearfully claimed that he had not committed any crime and was being framed. He expressed hope that the polygraph test would prove his innocence. However, the CBI asserted in court that Sanjay had already confessed to his crime and showed no remorse.

CBI Actions and Further Investigation:

In connection with this case, the CBI also initiated actions against the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, and other officials. On August 24, the CBI conducted raids at Sandeep Ghosh’s residence and conducted a polygraph test on him. Sandeep Ghosh was also accused of financial irregularities at the medical college. The raid and investigation took place on August 25, during which the CBI searched 15 locations linked to Ghosh and his associates.

Supreme Court’s Stern Remarks:

The Supreme Court held a hearing on this case on August 22, during which it criticized the Kolkata Police and hospital administration for their handling of the case. The court remarked that there was gross negligence in the matter. The Supreme Court noted that the police were informed at 10:10 AM that a trainee doctor was found unconscious in the hospital, but the FIR was filed only at 11:45 PM, which should have been the first step. The FIR should have also mentioned unnatural death.

Sanjay’s Condition in Jail:

Sanjay Roy is being held in judicial custody in the VIP ward of Presidency Correctional Home, where high-profile inmates like former Bengal ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mallick are also housed. However, Sanjay has been kept separate from them. He requested permission from the jail administration to sleep, stating that he was exhausted from continuous interrogations by the Kolkata Police and CBI over the past two weeks. He mentioned that the questioning sessions often lasted late into the night, leaving him mentally and physically drained, and that he urgently needed rest.

This case has raised serious concerns about law and order and security arrangements in Kolkata. The ongoing CBI investigation and Sanjay’s confession have added further complexity to the case, making the forthcoming inquiries even more crucial.
