In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, US Vice President JD Vance emphasized that while the US cannot control the situation between India and Pakistan, it can urge both nuclear-armed neighbors to de-escalate tensions. "We are concerned about the possibility of nuclear powers clashing with one another and the risk of a major conflict," Vance said. When asked about the potential for a nuclear war between India and Pakistan, Vance reiterated the US concern, highlighting the risk of escalation between the two nations. Vance cited US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who have both expressed the desire for tensions to be reduced as soon as possible. "We can't control these countries. India has issues with Pakistan, and Pakistan has responded. We can appeal to these nations to try to ease the tension, but we will not get involved in the war itself. This fundamentally has nothing to do with us," Vance stated. He further clarified, "The US cannot ask Indians to lay down their weapons, nor can we ask Pakistanis to do the same. Therefore, we will continue to pursue this issue through diplomatic channels. We hope it does not escalate into a broader regional conflict or a nuclear war, but we are certainly concerned about these things." Vance emphasized that diplomacy and calm minds will be needed to prevent the situation from becoming a nuclear conflict. "If that were to happen, it would undoubtedly be catastrophic. Right now, we don't think that's likely," he concluded.
