CBI uncovers bribery and illegal medicine racket linked to junior doctor’s death at RG Kar Medical College

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed a large-scale corruption network involving bribes for transfer postings and an illegal medicine racket at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a 31-year-old junior doctor was tragically assulted and murdered on August 9.

The investigation has exposed that this alleged syndicate has been operational for years and may have links to other government-run medical institutions in the state.

According to CBI findings, government-purchased medicines worth crores of rupees were illegally redirected to private pharmacies through this corrupt network.

Insiders suggest that the victim, who had actively spoken out against these corrupt practices in various forums, might have been targeted due to her opposition, leading to her brutal murder.

The probe has also pointed to the possible involvement of senior state officials in this illegal operation.

The CBI is now in pursuit of other doctors and individuals suspected of being part of this scam.

A senior CBI official stated, “We have uncovered a network involving both doctors and administrative personnel engaged in a corrupt transfer posting system. Doctors wishing to be posted at preferred medical colleges were reportedly required to pay between Rs 20 to Rs 30 lakh to the racketeers. The victim was deeply troubled by this unlawful practice and had strongly protested against it in various forums.”
