MUMBAI: New CCTV footage has surfaced showing a luxury Audi car, owned by Sanket Bawankule, son of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, ramming multiple vehicles in Nagpur. The 14-second video clip captures the car speeding through a crossing, crashing into a car, and then colliding with a bike.
The incident took place around 1 am, with five people inside the car at the time of the crash. Three of the occupants, including Sanket Bawankule, fled the scene, while the driver, Arjun Hawre, and another occupant, Ronit Chittamwar, were arrested. Sources revealed that the group had been returning from a beer bar, and blood samples of the arrested individuals have been sent for testing.
The collision injured two people on the bike and damaged several other vehicles. The occupants of one of the cars that was hit pursued the Audi and managed to stop it near Mankapur bridge, according to a police official cited by PTI.
Inspector Anamika Mirjhapure of the Sitabuldi Police Station confirmed, “The incident occurred in front of Centre Point Hotel. A car had fled after hitting two other cars and a bike. A case has been registered, and two accused have been arrested.” She identified the arrested individuals as Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwar.
Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the Maharashtra BJP chief, acknowledged that the car was registered in his son’s name. He urged for a thorough and impartial investigation, stating that appropriate action should be taken if found guilty, adding, “The law must be equal for all.”
