Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Announces ₹2,500 Monthly Aid for Women Ahead of International Women’s Day

New Delhi – The BJP-led Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has announced the implementation of its Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, which promises a monthly financial aid of ₹2,500 to eligible women in the capital. The scheme, a key BJP election promise, is set to be launched on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Who is Eligible?

According to officials, the scheme will benefit women aged 18 to 60 years who:

  • Have a household income of less than ₹3 lakh per year
  • Do not hold a government job
  • Are not receiving any other financial assistance from the government

Government estimates suggest that 15-20 lakh women will qualify for the aid.

AAP Accuses BJP of Delaying Implementation

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP of failing to deliver on its promise, reminding the government that only a few days remain before Women’s Day. Posters and protests have emerged across Delhi, with AAP workers holding banners saying, “Just 3 days left – every woman must get ₹2,500 per month!”

Responding to the criticism, CM Rekha Gupta said,
“No one needs to remind us of our commitments. We will fulfill our promises as per our agenda.”

Online Registration Portal Under Development

The Delhi government is developing an online portal for registration. Officials state that:

  • The IT department is creating software to verify applicants’ eligibility
  • The portal will be linked with databases from Income Tax, Food & Civil Supplies, and other government departments
  • Aadhaar will be used for verification, ensuring no duplicate applications
  • Women above 60 years of age will not be eligible, as they already receive financial assistance through other government schemes

Launch Event at Chhatrasal Stadium

The scheme is expected to be launched at Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi, with CM Rekha Gupta and her ministers distributing the first payments to selected beneficiaries.

With Women’s Day just around the corner, all eyes are on the Delhi government to see whether the BJP can deliver on its poll promise or if AAP’s criticism will gain traction in the political battleground.
