A drone attack on Russia on Monday, August 26, was reminiscent of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in the United States. A drone crashed into a 38-story residential building named ‘Volga Sky’ in Saratov, injuring four people. Russia has blamed Ukraine for this attack.

Retaliation by Russia:

In response, Russia fired 100 missiles and 100 drones at 12 Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, and Lviv. According to Reuters, the attack occurred in the early morning. Ukrainian Air Force officials reported that Kyiv was attacked using 11 TU-95 strategic bombers and Kinzhal ballistic missiles. A residential building was reported damaged in the attacks.

Reports also indicate that four people were killed in the Russian strikes. The attack occurred near the Ukraine-Poland border, and Polish military officials stated on social media that after the attack, Polish and NATO aircraft were placed on high alert.

Air Routes Closed After Attack:

The drone attack damaged a significant portion of the Russian building, and over 20 vehicles parked below were damaged. A seriously injured woman was taken to the hospital. Saratov is located 900 km from the Ukrainian border. Following the attack, all air routes were closed.

Reports Suggest Russia Was Attacked by 20 Drones:

According to media reports, Russia was attacked by 20 drones on Monday, with nine of them targeting Saratov. The governor of Moscow blamed Ukraine for the attack, but Ukraine has yet to comment on the incident. It is believed that the drone was launched from Ukrainian territory.

23 Years Ago, the World Trade Center Was Attacked:

In a viral social media video, a drone is seen rapidly approaching the ‘Volga Sky’ building and crashing into it. On September 11, 2001, terrorists in the United States crashed planes into the World Trade Center in a similar manner.

The terrorists hijacked four planes, with three of them crashing into important American buildings. The first crash occurred at 8:45 AM when a Boeing 767 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center at high speed. Eighteen minutes later, another Boeing 767 crashed into the South Tower.

Meanwhile, one plane crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense, and the fourth plane crashed into a field. The 9/11 attacks claimed the lives of 3,000 people from 93 countries and are considered the deadliest terrorist attack in human history.

Saratov Houses Russia’s Strategic Bomber Military Base:

According to reports, the Ukrainian military targeted the tallest building in the Engels city of Saratov province. Engels is home to Russia’s strategic bomber military base, which has been attacked multiple times by Ukraine since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukraine’s Persistent Attacks on Russia for 20 Days:

In the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, August 6, 2024, marked the first time Ukraine successfully captured the Kursk region of Russia. Since then, Ukraine has persistently attacked Russia.

According to RT, in 20 days, 31 Russian civilians have been killed in Ukrainian attacks, and over 140 people have been injured. For the first time since World War II, a foreign force has captured Russian territory. Ukraine captured 1,263 square kilometers of Russian territory in just two weeks.

However, experts believe that this victory for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could be short-lived and might turn into a defeat. Ukraine is currently focused on Kursk, which allows Russia to advance in Pokrovsk, Donetsk.

Political analyst Tatyana Stanovaya suggests that Russia is using its World War II strategy of letting the enemy enter and then attacking by surrounding them. This strategy could backfire on Zelensky’s Kursk campaign.
