Five-Storey Building Collapses: Four Dead, 14 Injured; Designated CM Atishi Orders Probe

In Delhi’s Prasad Nagar area, a five-storey building collapsed in Bapa Nagar on Wednesday morning, leading to the death of four people and injuring 14 others. Two of the injured are in critical condition, while 11 others are receiving treatment. One person was discharged after receiving first aid. Delhi’s designated Chief Minister Atishi has ordered an investigation into the incident and announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives. Injured individuals will also receive compensation based on the severity of their injuries.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Aman, 25-year-old Mukim, 18-year-old Mujib, and 26-year-old Mohsin. The building, which covered an area of 25 square yards and had a ground floor with four additional stories, housed a women’s footwear manufacturing unit. The police received information about the collapse at 9:04 AM on Wednesday. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Eyewitnesses described the scene, saying that dust clouds filled the street after the building collapsed, causing panic. Locals immediately stepped in to help rescue people from the debris, pulling out individuals like Gulfam, Ikramuddin, Nizamuddin, Saran, and Arab. The collapse also damaged nearby buildings, complicating the rescue efforts. Teams from the Delhi Fire Department, along with the police and NDRF, arrived at the scene to assist with the rescue operation.

All the injured were rushed to RML, Lady Hardinge, and LNJP hospitals by ambulance. The doctors declared four people dead upon arrival. The injured have been identified as Sameem (18), Saran (22), Sunny (25), Gulfam (30), Ikramuddin (32), Nizamuddin (32), Arab (14), Jyoti (36), Kavita (36), Simran (30), Manish Khan (23), Saleem Miyan (43), Uwaish (28), and Junaid (22).

Following the collapse, locals and rescue teams managed to pull 18 people from the debris. Chief Minister-designate Atishi has ordered a full investigation into the matter, while police have registered an FIR and are conducting further investigations. She also announced that families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh in compensation and stated that injured individuals will be compensated according to the extent of their injuries.
