Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has petitioned the Calcutta High Court seeking a probe by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged financial misconduct by Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the institution.
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has granted Ali permission to file the petition, requesting that the ED investigate the financial irregularities attributed to Ghosh during his tenure at the state-run hospital.
Ali had previously reported Ghosh’s alleged misconduct to the West Bengal government in 2023. Recently, the state government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which has been in the spotlight following the discovery of a woman doctor’s body in a seminar hall on August 9.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently handling the case of the alleged rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee, following directives from the high court.
