In a significant twist to the ongoing investigation into the Kolkata rape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has turned its focus on Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Arup Dutta of the Kolkata Police. Sources reveal that ASI Dutta was subjected to an intense eight-hour questioning session by the CBI. His statements are currently under scrutiny, and there is a strong possibility that he might be summoned again for further interrogation. The probe into Dutta’s involvement stems from his alleged close association with the prime suspect, Sanjay Roy. The investigating agency is also delving into the specifics of their relationship.

On Tuesday, ASI Dutta was seen entering the CBI office, a moment that quickly went viral as he was captured on video hurriedly making his way past the media, avoiding their questions. The CBI has reportedly inquired about the exact time Dutta became aware of the incident.

Dutta, who is also an active member of the Police Welfare Committee, allegedly received several calls from Sanjay Roy on the night of the tragic event. Roy, who was staying in the same barrack as Dutta, returned there immediately after committing the crime. In a related move, the CBI has conducted a thorough forensic examination of the police barrack where Roy spent the night following the incident.

In another development, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has taken over security at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, as directed by the Supreme Court earlier this week. The CBI continues its investigation, having questioned former Principal Sandeep Ghosh for six consecutive days. There are indications that the agency may subject Ghosh to a polygraph test as part of its ongoing inquiry.
