Kolkata Rape and Murder Case Shocking Details Unveiled by Police

Kolkata police have provided shocking details about the actions of the accused, Sanjay Roy, in the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor. The heinous crime took place early Friday morning within the premises of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, leaving the city in shock and horror.

Accused’s Actions After the Crime

According to the investigating officer, Sanjay Roy, who served as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata police, committed the crime between 3 am and 6 am on Friday. The victim, a young medical trainee, had sought refuge in a seminar hall on the third floor of the hospital, where she was brutally attacked. After the crime, Roy left behind his Bluetooth headphones at the scene, which became a crucial piece of evidence linking him to the crime. Additionally, CCTV footage confirmed his presence at the hospital during the critical hours.

Post-crime, Roy returned home and attempted to conceal his actions by washing his clothes. However, police discovered bloodstains on his shoes, leading to his arrest. Furthermore, investigators found disturbing content on Roy’s smartphone, including pornographic material.

Post-Mortem Findings

The post-mortem report, provided to the victim’s family in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, painted a grim picture. It ruled out suicide and detailed severe injuries, including bleeding from the eyes and private parts, with her neck bone found broken. The report indicated that the victim was strangulated before being smothered to death, underscoring the brutality of the crime.

Response and Developments

In the wake of the tragedy, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, resigned from his position. He expressed deep regret and distress over the incident and its impact on the institution’s reputation. “I am getting defamed on social media. The deceased doctor was like my daughter. As a parent, I resign. I don’t want such an incident to happen to anyone else,” Dr. Ghosh said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the residence of the deceased doctor, emphasizing the need for swift justice. She announced that if the police fail to resolve the case by Sunday, it would be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), although she expressed concerns about the central agency’s track record.

The community remains in shock as the authorities continue their investigation, striving to bring justice to the victim and her family.
