The brutal rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College has sparked nationwide outrage, putting immense pressure on the Bengal government and police to resolve the case swiftly.

City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has stated that the investigation is ongoing and that questions regarding the involvement of additional individuals in the crime can only be addressed once the probe is completed. He emphasized that while one suspect, Sanjoy Roy, has been apprehended, authorities are investigating other potential connections to the incident.

Commissioner Goyal noted, “Everyone connected to the case has been summoned, and those who have not yet come forward will be contacted. We have established a helpline for doctors to provide anonymous tips if they suspect anyone. We are in close contact with the victim’s family and will keep them informed of our progress.”

He expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation, stating, “If additional suspects are involved, we expect to make further arrests within the next four to five days. Should the family remain dissatisfied, we will take necessary actions as stated by the authorities.”

Victim’s body was discovered in the seminar hall of the government-run hospital on Thursday night. The preliminary autopsy revealed severe injuries and bleeding from multiple areas, including her eyes, mouth, and private parts.

Sanjoy Roy, the main suspect, was not an employee of the hospital but was known to frequent the campus. Roy, who worked as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was involved in various tasks such as traffic management and disaster response but did not have the same privileges as regular police staff.
