Sitaram Yechury’s Family Donates His Body to AIIMS for Research and Education

The family of the late Sitaram Yechury, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and a Member of Parliament from 2005 to 2017, has made a notable contribution to medical science by donating his body to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Yechury, who passed away on September 12, 2024, at the age of 72, had been receiving treatment at AIIMS for pneumonia since August 19, 2024. His family’s decision to donate his body is aimed at supporting teaching and research activities at the prestigious institution.

An official statement from AIIMS New Delhi’s Media Cell confirmed the donation, highlighting the family’s commitment to contributing to medical education and research. “The family has donated Sh. Sitaram Yechury’s body to AIIMS for teaching and research purposes,” the statement read.

This gesture is seen as a meaningful contribution to the medical field, reflecting Yechury’s enduring impact and his family’s dedication to advancing healthcare and education even in his passing.
