NEW DELHI: Ernst & Young (EY) has come under fire after a viral letter from a grieving mother alleged that her 26-year-old daughter, Anna Sebastian, passed away due to “overwork” just four months after joining the firm. The consulting giant, part of the “Big 4,” has since promised to take steps toward ensuring a healthier work environment for its employees.

In a statement issued Wednesday, EY expressed deep sorrow over Anna’s death in July 2024. “We are deeply saddened by Anna Sebastian’s tragic and untimely passing, and our deepest condolences go to the bereaved family,” the company stated, adding that they have been providing support to the family and will continue to do so.

The letter, widely circulated on social media, detailed the young woman’s excitement about joining EY, only for her life to be tragically cut short just four months later. The mother criticized the firm, claiming that no one from EY attended her daughter’s funeral.

EY emphasized that employee well-being is a top priority and vowed to review its practices to ensure a healthier work culture across its India operations.
