On Saturday, a powerful explosion occurred between Blochman Street and SN Banerjee Road in Kolkata. The blast resulted in severe injuries to 54-year-old Bipa Das, a scavenger. As he was picking up a bag from the trash, it exploded, causing multiple fingers to be severed.

Bomb Detection Squad’s Response

Following the blast, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) arrived at the scene and began their investigation. Traffic in the area has since been restored.

BJP’s Reaction and Demand for NIA Investigation

Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar has termed the explosion as a serious concern and has demanded an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He criticized the state government’s handling of law and order issues and has called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation. Majumdar has also sent a letter to the Home Ministry requesting an NIA probe into the incident.
